Żywiec archduke Albrecht built a wooden church in 1888 with baroque altars. It was designed by Jan Pietschka. Since then the church has been developing really fast. A renaissance altar of Our Lady of Częstochowa was created. There is a painting of the Most Precious Heart of Jesus Christ (1958) in the right aisle and a painting of Saint Francis in the left one. Zygmunt Milla and Marian Arczyński created the polychromy in the church. The bells, later stolen by the Naz,i were put in the tower in 1921. New bells were consecrated by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła in 1958. The church is the most precious historical site of Zawoja.
